The Complete Lore of Destiny

Just played Destiny 2 and still don’t know who Saint-14 is and what other mythology Destiny hides? We have put together every timeline and biggest events according to the lore. The whole thing is really worth reading if you have any interest in the game. Whether you played the first one and still wonder what the heck was going on,

Long ago, a rocky planet that was the homeworld of the proto-Hive collided into Fundament and shattered. The shards of the planet came to float upon a vast sea, the Fundament Ocean, within one of Fundament’s layers, and became “continents” upon which the proto-Hive eked out a meager existence; five hundred and eleven other intelligent species also inhabited Fundament’s sea through presumably similar circumstances, In Fundament’s orbit lay fifty-two moons inhabited by the space faring Ammonite civilization, which benefited from an alliance with the Traveler. Deep beneath the Fundament Ocean dwelled a creature called the Leviathan, a disciple of the Traveler. Deeper still, the Worms, direct servants of the Darkness, who were imprisoned for millions of years.

Life was quick and harsh for the proto-Hive. Their natural lifespan rarely exceeded ten Fundament-years, though proto-Hive who ate “mother jelly” became able to spawn and live longer.

In terms of environmental hazards, Fundament was almost inhospitable. The Fundament ocean was toxic, the storms constantly ravaged the skies, the rain was poisonous and sometimes corrosive, lightning had enough energy to vaporize anyone it struck, “living clouds” called Stormjoys would prey on the populace, and the proto-Hive were frequently in conflict. One kingdom of the Fundament Ocean was the Osmium Court, ruled by the Osmium King.

The King had 3 childrens  Xi Ro, Sathona and Aurash. The three sisters were tutored by Taox, a sterile Mother,

Life was going great for the kingdom… until the King while patrolling shores of the Osmium Court, discovered a dead Worm. which he started tending to as a familiar. The worm started telling the king about the Syzygy, a prophesied disaster that will soon erase all life from fundament.

When the king warned his people about such event his people concluded that the King was falling to senility in his old age, and that none of his daughters, which were two years old at the time, could properly rule the Osmium Court and protect it from the Helium Court, a rival kingdom so they should be murdered and a new ruler should be installed.

In desperation, Taox sent a message to the rulers of the Helium Court, the Helium Drinkers, saying that she would help them assassinate the King and his daughters if they installed her as their regent. The Helium Drinkers accepted Taox’s proposal and attacked, killing the King but failing to kill his daughters. In the confusion, Sathona managed to steal her father’s Worm in their escape. Reaching Aurash’s ship, the three sisters made a blood oath to return and take vengeance.

Over the next year, the three sisters sailed the oceans of Fundament. During this time, Sathona began to hear her father’s worm speak to her, guiding her to acts that would save the sisters over the year. Finally, the three sisters found a ship they named “the needle”, built of high technology, but whose crew had died obscenely after hatching an egg from a creature that they could not recognize. Xi Ro insisted that they sell the ship at the Kaharn Atoll, where the species of Fundament gathered, saying that an auction could raise them enough money to hire mercenaries to fight the Helium Drinkers. However, Sathona told Xi Ro that the ship was worthless. Aurash instead suggested that they repair the ship.

Over the next two years, the sisters repaired the needle, but by this point, the sisters were five years old. Sathona raised her fears that she would soon be too old to eat mother-jelly, and that the sisters would be unable to fulfill their oath. Aurash suggested that they had to dive beneath the oceans of Fundament, traveling to the planet’s core. Xi Ro warned that this was how the crew had died, but Sathona, urged on by the Worm, agreed with Aurash. The sisters took the needle into the deep. They finally reached a point where they could use the ship’s sensors on the oceans. To their horror, they discovered that the Syzygy was real, and that Fundament’s moons had already aligned. Just then, they were encountered by the Leviathan, a creature long spoken of in proto-Hive myth. The Leviathan warned the sisters that they needed to turn back, or else would unleash disaster upon the universe, saying that they faced a choice between the Light, which offered civilization, and the Darkness, which offered only violence. However, the Leviathan offered no hope to the sisters to avoid the Syzygy. Sathona then revealed the Worm’s help to her sisters, and how it urged them to go down. Rejecting the Leviathan’s entreaties, the sisters dove into the core.

Reaching the very center of Fundament, the three sisters found the Worm Gods: Akka, Eir, Ur, Xol, and Yul. The Worm Gods offered the three sisters a chance for the proto-Hive to escape Fundament as well as achieve immortality. All they had to do was take the Worms larvae into them as symbiotes and spread them among the proto-Hive. The Worms posed the caveat that the sisters must never cease their natures: Xi Ro must always test her strength, Sathona must always be cunning, and Aurash must always try to understand. The sisters accepted the pact and became the first Hive: Xi Ro took the Knight morph and became Xivu Arath, Sathona took the Mother morph and became Savathûn, and Aurash took the King morph, transforming into a male and became Auryx, the King of the Hive.

In a few short years the Hive conquered a swathe of Fundament’s surface, reclaiming the Osmium Court and harrying Taox off-world. After building their first starships, Auryx and his sisters forced an ultimatum on the remaining proto-Hive to accept the worms or perish, the Hive followed Taox and encountered the Ammonite civilization that lived among the moons, as well as the Traveler. The Ammonite were far more advanced than anything on Fundament’s surface and were initially able to repulse the Hive advance, especially as Auryx held the Hive back in the hope of achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Decrying Auryx’s weakness, Savathûn killed her brother. The Worms then vested Auryx and his sisters with the power to defy death so long as they continued their conquest and fed their worms.

Auryx returned to life and together he and his sisters defeated the Ammonite, killed the Leviathan as it tried to reach safety on the Ammonite home moon, and forced the Traveler to flee. The Leviathan’s corpse was fed to the Worm Gods Eir and Yul.. The three leaders of the Hive transformed Fundament’s fifty-two moons into mobile colonies for the Hive and set out to conquer the universe in the name of the Darkness and find Taox, who still eluded them.

During their universal conquesting Oryx and his sisters ran into a race called the Ecumene. The Books of Sorrow told of how the Ecumene were, “lords of matter and physical law” and how none of the three siblings were able to best them no matter how many times they died and came back.

So Auryx organized a meeting with his sisters in the ascendant realm, surrounded by their servants (some of which despised them for showing weakness) they despaired over their dilemma. With their forces wearing thin, the three came up with a plan through the power of Sword Logic.. They were going to kill one of their Worm Gods, gain its power and use it against the Ecemune. They were not able to defeat one of these gods on their own individually, nor could all three at the same time. But through the Sword Logic gained through two of them placed into a third, they could. So his sisters offered their power to help Auryx find a way to save them, Auryx killed them, then used that power to confront his patron god Akka, the Worm of Secrets. He killed Akka so that he may steal its ability to call upon the Deep and created the Tablets of Ruin, which gave him the power to Take. His transformation complete, Auryx was now Oryx, the Taken King.

He also took a segment of Akka’s body and turned it into Dreadnaught. Oryx’s ship is literally the giant carapace of the entity he killed. Oryx revived Xivu Arath in an act of war, and revived Savathûn in an act of cunning. With the power to now Take, He simply Take the Ecumene and warp their will to his own, have the Taken version fight for Oryx against the remaining Ecumene until they went extinct. But Oryx came to realize that the Worms had deceived him and his sisters: their Worms appetites were growing past their ability to feed with death.

So he created a tithe system where, each Hive would kill their enemies, take some to feed their own worm, and tithe the rest to their superior. Thralls would tithe to Acolytes, Acolytes would tithe to Knights or Wizards, the Knights and Wizards would tithe to the Ascendant Hive, those who commanded legions of warriors and earned the right to enter the Hive gods’ Ascendant realms. All of this violence would eventually reach Oryx, Savathûn, and Xivu Arath, allowing their worms to feed.

While Oryx was off studying the Deep, his son Crota was deceived by Savathûn into using his Cleaver to cut a portal inside his throne world, allowing the Vex to invade it. Vex created Quria, Blade Transform in order to deduce the Hive’s Sword Logic and defeat the Hive while attempting to become gods themselves. The invasion forced Oryx’s hand; as he dealt with the Vex, he moved his throne world into a mighty Dreadnaught scrimshawed from the remains of Akka and threw Crota through the Vex warp gate as punishment, declaring “Come home glorious, or die forgotten!” As he went out conquering through time, he established many monuments and temples to his father, while feeding him tribute in the form of captured Light.

According to Cabal myth, the first Emperor was a hero named Acrius who allegedly took the sun.  In the earliest days of this new empire, the Cabal emperor ruled alongside the venal military aristocracy known as the Praetorate, which allowed the people to suffer so the Legions who served them could grow.

Upon Calus’s Inauguration, he had the wasteland cleared of any stone or plant in order to have a desert of pure white. Three days later, a violet pavilion was constructed and Calus’s court was recreated in every detail.  The first act of his coronation was to send the Consul into the wasteland as a symbol for the revolution he would soon bring. During his reign, Calus decided to purge the corrupt Praetorate and he and his imperial guard marched into the temple where the former Cabal senate convened and assassinated them.  He then granted citizenship to the various Legions and set Evocate-General Umun’Arath as Primus of All Legions.

During this time, Calus moves the Capital to Torobatl so it could be closer to his people, throwing parades daily as he bought from the local market places. Following his “great purge”, Calus spoke to the people at Dau’uss, announcing that he had repossessed the wealth and plunder of the Praetorate elite. Centuries after destroying the Psions’ clairvoyant OXA Machine, word reached the emperor that it had been rebuilt on the moon of Brand. The Evocate-General then sent her ships to bomb the moon but Calus stopped her ships and instead proposed an alliance with Otzot, the Psion which rebuilt the machine.

Calus’s reign was not without personal troubles. He was wary of Umun’arath, his Evocate-General, for her paranoia and obsessive fixation on war. His own daughter and heir, Caiatl, grew up similarly despite his efforts. One of Calus’s pleasures was the coliseum, and one day, an albino gladiator named Ghaul made his first appearance there. Ghaul’s patient skill and unusual coloration soon made him a favorite of Calus’s, and the Emperor eventually made him Primus of the Red Legion, where his talents would be put to better use. Calus grew to love Ghaul like a son, and believed they were kindred spirits who both envisioned a newer, more perfect world. Ghaul’s association with The Consul and members of the Praetorate worried him, but not enough.

Behind Calus’s back, Ghaul was in fact organizing a coup with the Consul and some of Calus’s closest friends and advisors: Umun’arath, Shayotet, Otzot, Moli Imoli, Iska’al, and Caiatl. Ghaul launched his coup in the dead of night. With the Emperor too popular to simply execute, Ghaul, his Red Legion, and the Consul arrested Calus and a number of supporters in his own court and exiled aboard The Leviathan, taken far from the Empire along a pre-programmed course.

On the Leviathan, Calus wallowed in despair for an unknown amount of time until a strange event shook him out of his stupor. The Leviathan had come up against an expanse of utter nothingness, shorting out the navigation systems and the course the conspirators had set. Calus looked into the void and came to an understanding, believing that it had chosen him to carry out a great victory on its behalf. From that point on, Calus was changed, and took control of his own fate. He sought revenge.

With control of the Leviathan back in his hands, Calus set out on a long voyage of his own, “[plumbing] the secret places of the cosmos”, visiting strange realms and old ruins. This cemented both his conviction that his hedonistic philosophy was correct and his intent to retake his empire. Along the way, he gathered forces to strengthen his Loyalists. He created the Shadows as his elite champions, allied with aliens such as the Clipse and the Sindu, and sent messages promising that whoever slew his conspirators would be given great wealth and glory. Eventually, he set a course for the Sol system, which the Red Legion was planning to assault. He sent his Shadows to assassinate Ghaul and failed, but he learned of other warriors in the system that might serve his purposes.

The traveler after his escape from the fundament wandered many solar systems and came to “Eliksni” also known as the “Fallen”. The traveler was now called a  “Great Machine” by the fallen possibly because of the all gifts it offered. Their ubiquitous cloaking technology was originally designed as toys for children. During this time, they came to control multiple star systems. The Eliksni were in a Golden-Age and the traveler left them because their was nothing more to do for him. Soon after an event known as the “Whirlwind” possibly darkness destroyed their homeworld and civilization, the surviving Fallen became embroiled in a bloody civil war over their civilization’s ruins, before achieving a tenuous peace and embarking on a journey into space to locate the Traveler in order to return to greatness once again.

After escaping from Whirlwind the traveler arrives in our solar system and first visits Jupiter, Mercury and Venus. When the Traveler arrived at Jupiter, it terraformed the surrounding moons. Europa and Io. Mercury was turned into a Lush pink garden and Venus’ toxic air was ‘cleansed. With the coming of the Traveler, rain washed over Mars, and it was here that humans first encountered the spherical entity.[Once, populating Mars had been nothing more than a dream for humanity, but after its terraforming, a thriving metropolis named Freehold came to dominate the skyline – a bastion of human life in the red dunes.

The first contact with traveler on Mars taught humanity new powers and mystical technologies that led to this age. Now that most of the system could support human life, and armed with the incredible new technology to reach beyond Earth, colonization of these worlds began. Many corporations and research groups existed during the Golden Age, such as Clovis Bray or the Ishtar Collective. The Exos were created during this period, and the Ahamkara appeared.

Warminds are built and are so complex and intelligent that not even the Vex can accurately simulate or predict them. A network of hardened planet-side military installations and countless Warsats allowed the Warminds to monitor and coordinate defenses across the entire Solar System.

Here are some notable events that happened during the Golden Age of Humanity

  • The first Exo are built to aid and protect humans. With Rasputin involved in their command
  • Dr. Willa Bray develops the first engram matter-encryption techniques based on relic crystals’ unique datastatic properties. Glimmer is presumably developed as a byproduct and used as a source of power and currency.
  • The Ishtar Collective captures a live Vex specimen and nearly go mad until a Warmind intervenes. They send a group of two hundred twenty seven proxies into the Vex ruins to explore the Vex network.
  • The Future War Cult is founded by Maya Sundaresh at Lhasa after experimenting with Vex technology. The group disbands, however, after many of its members either go insane, commit suicide, or leave out of ethical concerns. Maya Sundaresh is among them.
  • The Kestrel, an experimental long-range jumpship, is prototyped.
  • Clovis Bray begins developing technologies geared toward the colonization of the Solar System in the form of SIVA and Transmission. After going through several prototypes, SIVA is approved for deployment.
  • Sometime later General Chen Lanshu glides around the Cosmodrome and converses with submind Malahayati about the possibility of invasion and speculates whether or not the Traveler could have been an enemy. Shortly thereafter, Chen Lanshu speaks to Willa Bray about the possibility of accelerating the colonization programs, and whether SIVA could be used for military purposes
  • Exodus Black, laden with SIVA, is sent to build new homes and ships for humanity on Nessus
  • The Traveler begins terraforming Io.

In the final days of the Golden Age the Traveler was in the midst of terraforming Io when it detected the Darkness approaching; abandoning the moon as it fled to Earth. As a result of this, the Ionian climate and geography do not support traditional agriculture, meaning that some remnant of Io’s original atmospheric composition prevented the full growth of plants.

While the Traveler retreated back to earth, the Warmind Rasputin detects the sudden arrival and rapid approach of an unidentified entity outside the Solar System. Recognizing the entity as a threat, Rasputin assumes control of humanity’s Planetary Defense Network and attempts to defeat the Darkness using all available weapons, but to no avail. In a last ditch attempt to stop the impending doom, As all countermeasures fail to affect the entity and defeat becomes a certainty, Rasputin decides to enact YUGA SUNDOWN, and shuts down to protect itself, leaving billions of people to perish.

On Mercury, Venus, and Mars, dormant Vex units reacting to the Collapse reactivate and begin terraforming several worlds. While Mercury is turned into a machine in days the Vex spread is temporarily stalled by the Traveler.  A massive spacecraft bearing a sigil of Golden Age Earth on its prow crashes on an unidentified battle-scarred world where over two dozen Exo soldiers fight a titanic battle with the Vex

On Earth itself, the Darkness overran the Knights stationed at Mumbai. Rasputin enacts ABHORRENT IMPERATIVE, and prepares to fire upon the Traveler with his most powerful weapons, thereby coercing it into a “pseudoaltrusitic” defensive action, should it attempt to leave this gravely injured the traveler and the event was called, “a knife with a million blades”. From that wound burst a massive wave of light that pushed the Darkness back to the outer edges of our solar system. Where the Darkness and Light met,

Just moments before the burst, many fleets full of humans were trying to flee from this Apocalypse and the burst destroyed the entire fleet thus creating Awokens in the process. After successfully driving the Darkness away from Earth, In its dying breath, the Traveler created the Ghosts…To seek out those who can wield its Light as a weapon. Guardians, to protect us, and do what the Traveler itself no longer can, being horrifically injured from the battle entered in some form of stasis.

The Dark Age

In the aftermath of the Collapse comes the Dark Age. It is a time of vast suffering and terrible evil. The Fallen arrive in the Solar System in their Ketches to loot and pillage humanity’s former worlds and colonies. The House of Devils destroy London after arriving on earth. During this time, the Devils would start leading raids against humanity, attacking human settlements wherever they found them. The Cabal’s scouting legions also arrived in the Solar System. Encountering no meaningful opposition, they established a beachhead on Phobos, constructing massive facilities such as Fleetbase Korus and Firebase Thuria before invading Mars. Their initial intention was to mine Mars for resources, but the scope greatly expanded upon discovery of the Vex ruins.

Many survivors of the Collapse gather within secret enclaves in desperate attempts to survive. Many stay at Reef serving the queen while some Awoken return to Earth and the Exo emerge but their memories have been irreparably damaged possibly because of Rasputin going into Hibernation. Ghosts travel among the refugee columns, seeking the first Guardians, whom will be called Risen or Chosen. The Risen after discovering their immortality will become Warlords

Before the first Guardians appear, rangers led by the legendary Ayane Takanome protect humanity’s survivors from enemies..She and her Rangers, armed with sniper rifles and cloaking tech perched upon mountains, made it their mission to defend refugees making their way to the growing city beneath the Traveler from all foes, Fallen and human alike. They disappear after the Guardians become commonplace. Some consider her a myth

The first humans to be resurrected by the Traveler become ruthless Warlords, bringing about chaos and anarchy. These were Guardians in only the loosest sense of the term; the people and villages whom they protected with their powers were forced to pay tribute to them, and failing to submit resulted in harsh punishments.

The Warlords were never united under a single banner and frequently fought among themselves over territory. Having had enough at last, Radegast brought Saladin Forge, Perun, and Jolder together to end the Warlords, and forms the Iron Lords. The Iron Lords confront the Warlord Segoth as he travels to a secluded village. After a bloody battle, the Iron Lords emerge victorious and Segoth is gunned down by Perun as he attempts to escape.

As the Iron Lords gain renown, Exo Warlord Felwinter changes sides, out of a desire for peace and security, and gives his mountain to the Iron Lords, who rename it the as the Iron Temple.Felwinter meets with the Warlord Citan to broker peace. Citan refuses, and the Exo puts him down. As his Ghost revives him once more, Felwinter uses his Shotgun, Felwinter’s Lie to terminate them both. More and more noble Guardians joined the cause until an army hundreds strong was formed and the oppressive warlords were deposed, along with the Fallen who ravaged the Earth. The first Titans pledge to defend the refugees gathering to the Traveler, forming the Pilgrim Guard

Survivors of the Collapse, human, Awoken, and Exo, travel from far and wide to the site of the inactive Traveler, and build the Last City beneath its protective aura. The City Age begins. Underneath the Traveler, with the guidance of the first Speaker, the Last City began to take root. It started as a small number of tents, but as more Guardians and humans began to arrive in the area, the City began to grow, the tents turning into fully-fledged buildings and exploding in size as population increased.

Power struggles between various political factions for the support of the City’s refugee masses escalate into a series of violent conflicts. Rezyl Azzir, a great leader and champion during those days, helps unite The Risen, and forms the Guardians, gaining him further fame. Together they end the bloodshed before the City is torn apart by the civil war, and focus on a new encroaching threat: the Fallen. The Consensus, a representative body through which the factions could pursue their agendas peacefully, is formed following the Faction Wars to jointly govern the City with the Speaker. New Monarchy coalesces in the wake of the Wars. In the aftermath, the first Titans construct and defend the City’s walls.

Titans raise the City’s first wall to protect it from Fallens. As the City continues to rise, Rezyl and the swelling numbers of Guardians see near constant action against the enroaching Fallen. While the guardians were busy fighting Fallen, the Hive begin landing Seeder Ships on Earth in a centuries-long process intended to precede an invasion. Guardians eventually first learn of the Hive’s presence at the Rusted Lands, the future site of a Crucible arena.

The arrival of Hive on earth fascinated Toland, an esteemed and highly respected Warlock and he began studying the Darkness and Hive. he was the first guardian to dare study the dark arts and learn the way how hive operated. Eventually he went mad and was exiled from the Last City. This didn’t stopped him and  he continues his work unabated. During all this Dead Orbit launches an expedition in the Reef to Ceres where a space station had been discovered. However an Awoken patrol ship spots them and cripples their ship, forcing them to move to the space station. None returns except a Ghost. Few years passed and The Walls are finally Risen and the Early City age starts.

The Battle of the Six Fronts

It was the first major attack weathered by the City. Four orders of Titans led by the Iron Lords defended six different approaches against an overwhelming enemy force. None of the orders faltered, and what could have been a disastrous defeat would instead become a decisive victory. At this time, the Iron Lords become known for their invincible patrols. Towards the battle’s end, two Firebreak commanders including Lord Radegast, lead a march against the Fallen and reclaim five miles of scorched ground beyond the City’s walls. The Speaker appoints Osiris as Vanguard Commander despite the Concordat’s objections and dire claims following the battle of Six Fronts

Mid-City Age

Osiris begins to tire of repetitive strike missions and seemingly unproductive sessions with the Cryptarch before he is eventually noticed by the Speaker, who makes him his apprentice. Osiris’ desire for truth, however, about the purpose of Guardians and the nature of Darkness seemingly drives him to madness. His subsequent misuse of resources and the diversion of Guardians from their duties would result in the Speaker sending him exile shortly after the Battle of Twilight Gap, as the Speaker believed he had become as obsessed with the Vex as Toland had with the Hive. After a bitter argument with the Speaker, Osiris himself left the Tower and vanished

The House of Devils leads the combined might of three Fallen Houses into an assault against the City. The battle is joined at Twilight Gap, just outside the City’s walls. Vanguard Commander Saladin Forge coordinates the City’s defenses with his students Zavala and Shaxx. Though many Guardians fall in the ensuing battle, the united Fallen Houses are driven off with heavy casualties. In the aftermath of the Guardians’ hard-won victory, the outermost sections of the City are evacuated and converted into fortifications, and the Vanguard decides to take a more proactive stance in fighting the forces of the Darkness by deploying strike teams against high value enemy targets.

The Iron Lords stumble on an old Clovis Bray research on SIVA, which points to its source, designated Site 6 in the Cosmodrome, Old Russia. There the Iron Lords, having grown to the hundreds (including the Iron Wolves), accidentally awaken the old Warmind Rasputin, who activates his defenses in retaliation, killing all but nine of the Iron Lords, who sacrifice themselves to contain SIVA after it proves uncontrollable to even Rasputin; only Saladin Forge returned to the City. The Six Coyotes, a legendary fireteam of Hunters, make the first survey beyond the Cosmodrome wall.

After Twilight Gap, the legendary Titan and Exo Saint-14 rallies an army of Guardians to attack the Fallen surrounding the Last City. His campaign is successful and Fallen attacks on the City temporarily abate. During the campaign, he personally fights and kills Solkis, Devil Kell. Shortly thereafter he goes in search of Osiris the warlock at the behest of the Speaker, heading for Mercury.

As Twilight Gap rages on Earth, the Awoken of the Reef, allied with the Nine, subdue the powerful House of Wolves. Battles include the Hildian Campaign and the Raze of Amethyst. After their Kell Virixas is killed, a brutal civil war among the Wolves ensues which sees Skolas emerge as the new Kell. Following Skolas’s capture at the Cybele Uprising, the Wolves surrender and swear fealty to the Queen of the Reef rather than be totally destroyed. The Queen seals their nobility in the Prison of Elders and allows the rest to serve as her personal guards and servants.

Petra Venj is exiled to the Last City to serve as the Queen’s Emissary as penance for murdering nine Guardians and their Ghosts because of a miscommunication between the Awoken and the Vanguard. Sometime during this exile she writes a letter asking to come home.Following the Reef Wars, the Cabal commander Valus Trau’ug attempts to authorize an invasion of the Reef. When he is denied by his superiors, Trau’ug massacres his own officers in an act of mutiny and leads his most loyal soldiers against the Queen. Trau’ug fails utterly as both he and his Broken Legion are interned in the Prison of Elders by unknown means. Their ships end up as part of the Reef graveyard.

In the aftermath of the Reef Wars and the Twilight Gap, numerous rogues and outcasts of the Fallen houses band together to form the House of Exile on the moon and start to plunder the Hive fortress there. The Concordat faction attempts a coup against the Consensus, fighting a battle against the New Monarchy at Bannerfall. In the wake of their defeat, the faction and their founder is ejected from the City. The Vanguard and the Speaker then approve the ascension of the Future War Cult to replace the Concordat.

A fireteam consisting of Praedyth, Pahanin, Kabr, and three unknown Guardians land on Venus and breaches the Vault of Glass, hoping to destroy Atheon, along with whatever secrets the Vex have hidden there, and return to the City in glory. The assault is a disaster, as Kabr’s team encounter the Templar, whose impregnable shields and powerful weapons force the team deeper into the Vault of Glass. Only Pahanin escapes the Vault. One member, Praedyth is trapped by the Vex and lost in time, and the remaining Guardians are erased from existence. Kabr himself is not killed but instead goes mad, becoming obsessed with the Vex, fashioning armor and weapons from their corpses. In the end Kabr does not die but is assimilated by the Vex. In his last act Kabr creates the Aegis, a weapon capable of piercing the Templar’s shields, so that future fireteams will not meet his fate.

Late City Age

The Hive invade Earth and make first contact with the Guardians. Though the Guardians successfully repel the invasion, Shaxx attempts to dissuade the Consensus from ordering a counterattack, arguing that the Hive’s power needed to be understood before a proper offensive could be launched. In the years after, he begins developing the lost art of swordsmithing, reverse-engineering the dreaded Hive blades for use by Guardians.

Shortly after discovering the Hive during the battle of Burning Lake, the Guardians launch an audacious offensive to reclaim the Moon from the Hive. The Hive Prince Crota, the son of their God-King Oryx, brutally repels the attack, personally leading the Hive’s forces and killing scores of Guardians with his fabled sword. Humbled, the Vanguard orders a full retreat and declares the Moon off-limits, hoping that the Hive will lose interest and refrain from invading Earth.Seeking to avenge their lost allies, Eriana-3 leads a fireteam of Guardians consisting of Eris Morn, Vell Tarlowe, Omar Agah, Sai Mota, and Toland, the Shattered to the Moon to hunt down Crota. Though they succeed in destroying Crota’s physical form, the Hive catch and preserve his soul. As the Guardians try to flee, they are killed one by one until only Eris remains. Eris survives in the Hive’s tunnels for years before escaping and later becoming one of Ikora Rey’s Hidden.

The Ahamkara were frequently sought out by Guardians for their wish-granting powers. These wishes would always backfire, however, and cause far more harm than good. the Ahamkara are made extinct by order of the Vanguard to prevent Guardians from self-destruction. The Warlocks preserve some Ahamkara bones and fossils for study, and a few Hunters adorn their armor with scales.

Cayde-6 was once a daring and adventurous Guardian, so of course he couldn’t say no to a challenge – not even the notorious Vanguard Dare. He lost the bet, to his immense regret. What the bet was over is unknown but Cayde took over as the Hunter Vanguard when his predecessor and close friend, Andal Brask, was murdered by the Fallen mercenary Taniks, the Scarred.

Rezyl Azzir goes to the Moon to “search for nightmares“, and is “invited” in by Hive Wizard Xyor, the Blessed. He kills her consort and takes his chitin as a trophy to adorn the Rose.Rezyl Azzir becomes Dredgen Yor, corrupted by the Hive trophies he has collected,  and begins his campaign of destruction, murdering fellow Guardians and civilians alike. His victims include the Crucible champion Thalor and the Hunters Pahanin and Jaren Ward. Yor is finally killed by Jaren Ward’s adopted son, Shin Malphur and his handgun The Last Word after a fateful duel. All information relating to Rezyl becoming Dregen Yor is redacted by the Vanguard for fear of a demoralization. Only Shin and the Vanguard knew the truth.

Fireteam Tuyet traverses the Ishtar Sink in search of Vex secrets. Unfortunately the Vex find them first and Tuyet is lost in a last stand on the Shattered Coast. The intel they recover though is later used to forge Pocket Infinity
